Friendly Shoot
OVA and Kestrels

21st June 14:00

Inter-Club Friendly Match

We are hosting a friendly shoot against Kestrels on Sunday 21st June from 14:00 at Woodside. We will be shooting a National Round followed by a picnic.

We are hoping as many members as possible will take part, not only is this an opportunity to meet archers from another club, it is a great way to ease into the outdoor season. We are planning that Kestrels will then host an indoor friendly competition so our members can have the opportunity to shoot a proper indoor round once we go back indoors later in the year.

If you are able to shoot could you please let Don know so we can get an idea of numbers. Also in the past when we have hosted friendly and is the intention this time we ask that archers bring along some food to share.

Ivy Keating - Match Report

Thanks to all those who turned up to help, both on the Saturday and on the Sunday. The team did a great job keeping things going in difficult conditions.

The match started well, in breezy but fine conditions. Sighters went okay for me, and I thought were going to have a good day. Conditions soon worsened, though, and after a few ends we were shooting in hail.

We shot through 90 and then 70 metres and it did seem to improve a little. There were some complaints about the conditions, but as it was the same for everyone it was all part of the match. We broke for lunch in the hope that it would calm down a little.

By the tme the 50m started we had discovered it was worse rather than better. The gusts were pushing people sideways and scopes were falling over if not anchored down. Even the compound archers were missing because their bows were being pushed sideways.

In the end the judges and the team captains decided to call a halt and call the match at seven and a half dozen, and while some were dissapointed to end the match, I think there was general relief as the conditions were getting unsafe.

The senior recurve and senior compound were both won by Northants, 4295 vs 3813 for the Recurve and 3397 to 3351 for Compound, so well done Northants for that. Senior Longbow was won bby Beds as Northants did not show. Junior Recurve and Junior Compound were both won by Bedfordshire, 2883 to 2914 for Recurve and 1116 to 1281 for Compound - so congratulations to the Juniors.

The mood and the atmosphere of the shoot was very good, with all archers rising to the challenge of the day with excellent spirits. A quick thanks to NCAS for supplying the borrowed photos - a full gallery of pictures can be found on their site here.
